Steve Harvey, Bobby Flay, Ellen DeGeneres, Mehmet Oz and Katie Couric all took home trophies at the live-streamed 2014 Daytime Emmys Awards Sunday... or they would have, had they actually shown up. (Couric who got married Saturday in the Hamptons, had a good excuse — that, and the fact her show got canceled in December.)
This was the first year the ceremony, which honors the best in soaps and daytime entertainment and news programming, was not broadcast on television, and the event was, by many accounts, a mess, with clueless "social media experts" on the red carpet, broken teleprompters, excessive swearing, never-ending thank-yous, and Kathy Griffin.
Harvey won two awards, for outstanding talk show in the information category and for outstanding game show host for "Family Feud." "The Young and the Restless" won for outstanding drama series, and the six soap opera acting awards were split evenly between "Y&R" and "The Days of Our Lives." "Good Morning America," which has been leading "Today" in the ratings since 2012, earned its first Emmy for outstanding morning program since 2009. ("CBS Sunday Morning" won last year, "Today" the previous three years.)

The 41st Daytime Emmy Awards, presented by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) and Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS), took place on June 22, 2014. The drama pre-nominees were announced in March 2014, and the nominations were announced on May 1, 2014.[1] In October 2013, the Academy announced the addition of two new categories, “Outstanding Entertainment News” which will honor the entertainment industry with a focus on human interest, popular culture and celebrity gossip and interviews. The second new category, “Outstanding New Approaches Drama Series” will honor any daytime drama series which has less than 35 original episodes in the 2013 calendar year.[2]
For the first time in the event's four-decade history, the Daytime Emmy ceremony will forgo a traditional TV broadcast and instead air only online through the DaytimeEmmys.net website. In prior years, broadcast rights to the event were shared on a rotating basis byABC, CBS, and NBC, with exceptions in 2009 (The CW), 2012, and 2013 (cable's HLN both years).[3]
