State may take over RTC
Hyderabad: As a permanent measure to check losses and also to prevent the frequent strikes plaguing public transport, the state government is considering a proposal to take over the management of the APSRTC.
Transport minister Botsa Satyanarayana said that employee unions and the staff of RTC have been requesting the government to take over the corporation so that it can be effectively managed.
Talking to media at Gandhi Bhavan on Saturday, Mr Satyan-arayana said, “The government will consider the proposal positively and will send study teams to Tamil Nadu and Karnataka where the government is running the RTC.
“It is a proposal from the employees. We will consider this. At present the RTC is having a loss of Rs 4,000 crore and 75 per cent of the RTC routes in Coastal AP is incurring losses. So it will be a permanent solution to the problems being faced by RTC if the government takes over management,” Mr Satyanarayana said. He said the existing six zones of the RTC can be effectively managed whenever there are strikes, and systems will be addressed zonal wise.
“Being a public sector undertaking the RTC is struggling to make payments towards motor vehicle taxes etc. All this will be solved once the government takes over,” the minister said.
