NEW DELHI: Early reversal of Maharashtra Cabinet's decision to reject the Adarsh probe report indicting senior Congress leaders seems certain withSonia Gandhi on Saturday saying that the issue will be resolved.
Sonia told reporters, "That has been decided yesterday and I think it is going to be resolved." She was asked about the fate of the Adarsh report, a day after Rahul Gandhi said the issue should be reconsidered.
The Congress vice-president on Friday told a news conference that he disagreed with the state Cabinet's decision to nix the report that has indicted former chief minister Ashok Chavan and Union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde.
With Maharashtra CM Prithviraj Chavan by his side, Rahul ticked off the state and made it clear there was no question of protecting any leader.
The surprise rebuke came when Rahul, telling reporters about the decisions taken at the meeting with Congress CMs on ways of combating corruption, was asked about the contradiction between his objectives and the Maharashtra government's decision on Adarsh scam.
For Congress, the reversal of the decision on Adarsh report would be a volte-face after it insisted that there was nothing wrong in Cabinet decision to reject the report. But the fact that the state's hand is being forced by Congress's heir imminent, it is hoped, would help dent the negative perception about Congress on the corruption front.
Rahul's public rebuke on Adarsh comes after he similarly disapproved of the ordinance on convicted legislators by calling it "complete nonsense" on September 27.
The Union Cabinet, which had cleared the ordinance, then met again to recall it.
Rahul has since taken the lead in positioning himself as the voice pushing for Lokpal bill and six other legislations that he said would form the "framework" to fight graft.
With the party flagging corruption as a focus area in the recent months, Sonia told reporters, "I would ask the media to please look at other states led by other parties also, something about corruption ... among their (other parties') own friends and particularly among some of their ministers."
"Look at us by all means and point out our mistakes but look at others also," she said after the Congress's foundation day function at AICC headquarters, adding the UPA government has already ensured the passage of the Lokpal bill and is committed to curb corruption.
