Movie review: Quirky characters, mad love story make Main Tera Hero entertaining

Some movies are review-proof. David Dhawan's Main Tera Hero, starring Varun Dhawan, Ileana D'Cruz and Nargis Fakhri falls in the category. The film is recommended for Bollywood masala lovers, David Dhawan fans, suckers for any kind of comedy and pure vellas. Disclaimer: Leave your brain at home and go by Dhawan logic to enjoy Main Tera Hero to its fullest.

Main Tera Hero travels from mountainous Ooty, to the fun college campus of Bangalore, and then to a beautiful mansion, in gorgeous Thailand.

Main Tera Hero features Varun Dhawan, Ileana D’cruz, Nargis Fakhri, Arunoday Singh, Anupam Kher, Evelyn, Saurabh Shukla and Rajpal Yadav.
Here're five things that make it work as an entertainer:
1. A divine comedy, really!: 
Seenu (Varun Dhawan) is a bhakt (devotee) with a difference. He sings Oh My friend Ganesha to Ganapathi and breaks into Bhole Mera Dil Maane Naa (parody of Badtameez Dil) instead of the regular boring bhajans. The gods might compete with Anupam Kher, Saurabh Shukla and Rajpal Yadav for best comedy award this season. Consider this scene: when Seenu spots Sunaina (Ileana), he asks Lord Krishna for blessings and a flower falls on his head. While Seenu moves out of the frame, Lord Krishna says: "Seenu tu galat samajh raha hai, phool to hawa se gir gaya tha."

Well that was something we liked. But the technical glitches (dubbing and editing) in the sequences spoiled the fun.
2. A love triangle, that turns square (but not flat): 
We thought it was a predictable love story weaved around Varun Dhawan, Ileana D'Cruz and Nargis Fakhri. Before interval, Varun, Ileana and Arunoday's love triangle is in focus, while we wonder when Nargis will walk into the scene. When she does appear towards the interval, we are left wanting for more.
3. David Dhawan magic: 
The full-on David Dhawan affair starts in the second half, when Varun Dhawan romances both Nargis and Ileana simultaneously. Galat Baat Hai reminds us of Tum To Dhokhebaaj Ho from Saajan Chale Sasural.
While Arunoday Singh says I love you to a wrong person, Nargis Fakhri (Ayesha) falls for Varun Dhawan's (oops Ganesha's) ghanti trick. Saurabh Shukla overshadows Anupam Kher as he 'whistles' his ways to our hearts (Hint: Have you watched Hogi Pyaar Ki Jeet?). If you are an avid David Dhawan fan, you'll recall a replica of many of his old comic tricks. Not to forget Shakti Kapoor's cameo appearance that has a filmy twist.

4. Arunoday Singh: Arunoday Singh (Angad) lends an interesting flavour to the otherwise mundane love story. He is the quintessential larger-than-life villain in the first half. His metamorphosis to a vulnerable, nervous and a rather dumb man in the second half is something to watch out for. In fact, his performance is one of the highlights of the movie.
5. Character quirks you might discuss over food: 
Anupam Kher's voice echos (apparently because he's born in Manali), Saurabh Shukla's words-pe-mat-jao dialogues, Nargis Fakhri's confusion about the whole business of love, enhance the overall experience of the film.
Last, but not the least, Varun Dhawan has passed the test and is graduated with distinction from Student of the year to Hero of the hearts.
Go for it, if entertainment is your expectation from this one.
