The chairman of the Bihar Secondary Examination Board Lalkeshwar Singh today resigned from his post shortly after the Nitish Kumar government issued a show cause notice against him over the controversy surrounding the state's dubious Intermediate examination toppers, who have been found to be clueless about their subjects.
Here are the latest developments:
The Bihar government had sought Singh's resignation yesterday, but he refused to do so initially.
A show cause notice was then issued against Singh this morning, forcing him to quit his post.
Meanwhile, India Today has discovered that while answer sheets from all other schools in Vaishali district were sent to Kaimur and Ara for evaluation, only the ones from Bishun Rai College were sent to Patna's Boys' High School.
The Arts and Science toppers in the Plus Two exam - Ruby Rai and Saurav Shrestha respectively - had taken their examination at Bishun Rai College.
The Special Investigation Team probing the topper scam yesterday raided the school where the answersheets of the candidates from Bishun Rai College are kept.
The prinicipal of the school, according to sources, has claimed that seal of the envelope in which answersheets of Bishun Rai College was sent to him was already broken.
Five people, including the principal of the GA Inter College, which was the examination center for Bishun Rai College students, have been detained and being interrogated.
The centre superintendent of Patna Boys' High school Viseshwar Yadav has also deen detained by the SIT.
An FIR has been filed against Science toppers Saurabh Sreshtha, third topper Rahul Kumar and Arts topper Ruby Rai - all students of Bishun Rai College.
The BSEB last week cancelled the results of the first and third toppers in the Science stream as both failed in their re-test, but decided to give another chance to the Arts topper to appear for a re-test on June 11.

పలువురు టాపర్స్ కూడా పొంతనలేని సమాధానాలు చెప్పడంతో ఈ కుంభకోణం వెలుగుచూసింది. బిషున్ రాయ్ కాలేజీకి చెందిన విద్యార్థులు పలు విభాగాల్లో టాపర్స్‌గా రాణించడంపై అనుమానాలు వ్యక్తమయ్యాయి. ఈ కేసు దర్యాప్తు చేస్తున్న ప్రత్యేక దర్యాప్తు బృందం రాహుల్‌ను ప్రశ్నించగా ర్యాంకు కోసం 5 లక్షల డబ్బులు లంచంగా ఇచ్చినట్లు అంగీకరించాడు. ఈ కేసులో బీహార్ ఇంటర్ బోర్డు అధికారి, ఆయన భార్య, కాలేజీ నిర్వాహకులతో పాటు పలువురు అరెస్ట్ అయ్యారు.
